Different Types of Bed Sheets

There are a lot of sheets out there. Which ones are right for you really depends on…well, you. The best sleeping conditions for one person may not be the same for another, and with a whole lot of different factors to consider, such as kinds of materials, the type of weave, number of thread counts, and overall style, finding the right sheets can feel overwhelming. But never fear, we’ve been crafting a wide variety of sheets for over 50 years and we’re here to help.

When searching for new sheets, you may see certain terms referenced.

Staple length refers to how long the fibers were when the cotton was woven. The higher the staple length, the better the quality.

Thread count is the number of threads woven into an inch of fabric—or how tightly woven the fabric is. This can affect a variety of things such as softness and durability. If you’re not sure which thread count, you’re looking for, don’t worry. Schweitzer Linen has a huge variety of bedding with every kind of thread count you can imagine.

Weave is the style of how the fabric was woven. Here the focus isn’t so much on the kind of fabric being used but how it’s being constructed. Different weaves can impact bedding in many ways such as appearance, texture, and other key benefits like breathability.

LINEN SHEETS

There’s a long list of benefits to using linen sheets. Linen’s natural fibers regulate temps and act as natural insulators to keep you cool in warmer weather and warm in colder weather—so you can use it year-round. It’s incredibly long lasting and gets better with age, so you’ll get many years of enjoyment out of it. Its elegant looks and various styles give any bedroom an instant upgrade. Plus, linen is also naturally moisture-wicking, anti-bacterial, and holds its shape. Is there anything these sheets can’t do? Explore our huge selection of exclusive linen styles right here.

Sateen

Some of the smoothest sheets around, sateen uses a different type of weave to give it a silkier softness than other sheets, and a slight sheen. You could say it’s shinier and smoother. It’s also slightly heavier than percale, adding to its strong durability. Plus, it also resists wrinkles, so less worry for you.

Percale

Different weaves affect the quality and feel of your sheets, and one of those is known as percale, or “plain weave”. For percale, the cotton is combed over and woven tightly, so you’ll experience a much smoother sheet. Also, the cotton is super light and breathable making these a great choice for those who tend to sleep hot.

Polycotton

Made with a blend of cotton and synthetic fibers, polycotton sheets tend to be stronger than some cotton and a little less expensive. There is plenty of softness to go around, and a crisper texture to the fabric, so it tends to hold its shape longer for an attractive appearance that’s easy to maintain. On the other hand, it’s not as breathable or soft as natural cotton fibers.

Damask

Looks don’t mean everything, but in the case of damask, they mean a whole lot. Gorgeous, eye-catching patterns are woven into the fabric instead of being printed on it for an awe-inspiring appearance. It’s not only one of the most decorative ways to add elegance to your decor, but also highly durable too.
